Doctor of Philosophy in Health Education and Promotion

Ph.D. Program in Health education and promotion

The PhD program in Health Education & Promotion is designed to provide students with coursework and practical experiences needed to become leading faculty, researchers, and practitioners in health education and health promotion. By the conclusion of the program, students will be able to conceptualize the theoretical and philosophical basis of health education and health promotion clearly; plan, implement, and evaluate health education and health promotion programs effectively; elucidate the psychological and sociological influences on health education and health promotion; and conduct their own independent research projects. A flexible course of study can be designed by the student in consultation with his or her advisor. The general required components of the Ph.D. program are listed below.

I. Health Education/Promotion Core (12 hrs)

  • HHE 604 Seminar in Health (3 hrs)
  • HHE 605 Advanced Theoretical and Scientific Basis of Health Education and Promotion (3 hrs)
  • HHE 606 Planning and Administration of Health Education and Promotion (3 hrs)
  • HHE 667 Advanced Evaluation of Health Education and Promotion (3 hrs)

II. Advanced Research and Statistical Methods (12 hrs)

  • HHE 626 Advanced Biostatistics in Health (3 hrs)
  • HHE 627 Multivariate Methods in Health (3 hrs)
  • Data Management/Computer Technology (3 hrs)
  • Evaluation/Research Methods (3 hrs)

III. Social and Behavioral Science (12 hrs)
