Students present their design ideas

Interior design instructors, Casey Faulkner and Michelle Rose took four junior studio classes (Design for Special Populations) for a tour of the UA Autism Clinic. They met with the director, Dr. Laura Hansen and Speech Therapist Rebekah Whitt who both shared the things they would like to change about the facility to improve their clients’ experience at the clinic. Students were then divided into teams of 3 or 4 to develop ideas for the waiting room, sensory room and treatment rooms based on research and notes from the field trip.  All 19 teams presented their design ideas to Dr. Hansen and  Debbie  Kofman, the ASD Clinic Coordinator. The two took a lot of notes and were excited about the students’ ideas. Dr. Stuart Usdan, dean, Brian Taylor, department chair, and other faculty popped in for portions of the presentations. Copies of the student posters were later sent to the Autism Clinic team.
