The Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design launched The Fashion Playbook, a gameday-themed fashion show created in collaboration with UA’s Office of Trademark and Licensing. The show featured work by sophomore and junior fashion design students who were challenged to create looks inspired by The University of Alabama’s identity.
Sophomore students were tasked with creating wearable, marketable gameday looks that reflected the University’s brand while appealing to a contemporary audience. Juniors had the option to approach the challenge more conceptually, using avant-garde techniques to interpret the theme in innovative ways.
This project offered students a professional-level design experience, requiring them to consider how to align their personal design aesthetic with an existing brand—an essential skill for working in the fashion industry. From initial concept to final garment construction, students had to think strategically about customer, brand identity, and creative direction.
The Fashion Playbook not only highlighted student talent but also reflected the department’s focus on industry engagement and applied learning. Collaborating with a well-known brand like UA gave students insight into the creative and strategic process behind designing for a specific audience—preparing them for the realities of design work after graduation.
