Welcome to the College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama. We are home to over 3,600 students and more than 100 full-time faculty with classrooms, labs, and offices in seven buildings across campus. Because helping people is foundational to our mission, the College brings together diverse disciplines that impact the human condition. All our programs share a common vision – the determination to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities.
Whether pursuing a degree or conducting research in clothing, textiles, and interior design; consumer sciences; public health; athletic training; human development and family studies; human nutrition or hospitality and sport management, our programs focus on making a difference in peoples’ lives. Each of our highly regarded programs includes accomplished and award-winning scholars, practitioners, industry professionals, teachers, and support staff. World-class labs, facilities and faculty drive innovative research and interdisciplinary collaboration towards the common goal of improving lives.
At CHES, we believe hands-on practice improves the chances for success after graduation, so we have woven experiential learning opportunities throughout our programs. In this way students can incorporate classroom knowledge in real-world settings.
Finally, we pride ourselves on the relationships we have with our students and alumni. With our small class sizes and faculty who are invested in your success, you will never feel like just a number.
