Apparel and Textiles

The AT major prepares students for merchandising, management, design, and production careers in retailing and/or the textile and apparel industry. The major is also appropriate for students who are interested in pursuing a wide variety of entrepreneurial opportunities in fashion retailing, textiles, and/or apparel. Students may concentrate in apparel design or fashion retailing.

The concentration in apparel design appeals to those who desire a course of study leading to a wide selection of apparel design career options, including textile or apparel design, production, and management. The curriculum includes coursework in apparel and textile design, fashion illustration, historic costume, fashion merchandising, apparel production, marketing, quality control for textile products, and computer-aided apparel design.

Interior Design

The program strives to create student motivation for excellence based in the knowledge of the principles and elements of design and their appropriate application to the built environment. Faculty are committed to providing opportunities for students to develop a multicultural and global awareness of human needs through class projects, lectures, and other opportunities.

Students learn entry level professional skills that enable employment in commercial areas such as architectural firms, design firms, corporate design departments, institutional design, health care design, as well as the single family and multiple occupant residential design sector.

Accredited for over 30 years by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), the UA Interior Design program provides both knowledge and skill development to students who number as one of the largest groups graduating in interior design in the southeast.
