Is this major a fit for me?
Students who succeed in the field of fashion design are both organized and highly creative. If you are hard working and possess a passion for fashion, then fashion design may be the career for you.
Will anyone be there to guide me?
Faculty are committed to providing students with personal attention as they develop design skills. The studio environment creates opportunity for guidance as well as conversation about faculty experience in the industry.
How can I get involved?
You can become a member of the Student Fashion Association (SFA), a student organization for apparel and textile students. The organization sponsors fashion events in both the fall and spring, showcasing the talent and designs of outstanding students.
Will I learn outside a lecture hall?
As a fashion design major, you will rarely sit in a lecture. Our studio spaces feature a variety of sewing equipment including industrial machines and sergers, large cutting tables, and dress forms. Students also have access to the latest software for computer aided design.
Will I get to know my major professors?
Absolutely. As a fashion design major, you will work closely with faculty members in small group settings. Faculty members lead multiple courses throughout your sequence of design classes as well as serve as individual advisors for your four year plan.
Where do graduates of the program typically work?
Fashion design graduates have multiple opportunities for employment in the fashion industry. Some of our students develop clothing lines of their own and open specialty stores, while others work for established designers such as Thom Browne, The Row, Brandon Maxwell, and Oscar de la Renta.
