Degree Programs
As of spring 2017, there were 263 undergraduate students majoring in interior design at
the University of Alabama. A total of 48 majors earned their degree during the academic
year 2015-16.

Job Placement Rates
According to the HES Alumni Survey
93% of those recent graduates seeking employment are currently employed.
82% of those who are currently employed found a job within 6 months of
graduation.

Professional Positions
Graduates from the UA Interior Design program hold positions of responsibility in a wide
variety of design areas. Our graduates have taken positions designing exhibitions at the
Smithsonian in D.C., designing interiors for French aircraft company Dessault, supervising
preservation for the City of New York, designing retail space for Barney’s in Dallas, and
Van Cleef and Arpels Jeweler in Paris, as well as residential design with Solis Betancourt in
D.C., Veenendaal Cave in Atlanta, and Victoria Hagan in New York.

Attrition and Retention Rates
Of the entering class of 2016 cohort of 89 students, 74% continued into their 2nd year,
100% continued into their 3rd year and 100% graduated within 4 years or less.

6-year Graduation Rates
Of the entering class of 2010 cohort, the College of HES had a 59.8% 6-year Graduation
rate. The 6-year graduation rate for the University was 68.7% .

Future Graduate School
Over the years, graduates of the interior design program have elected to pursue graduate
degrees in architecture, preservation, and interior design education. In the last three years
four students have shared plans for grad school.
