OVERVIEW

The Hospitality Management program at The University of Alabama was established in 1985 in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. With almost 40 years of experience in providing high-quality education, the program’s top-tier academic curriculum and dedication to providing experiential learning opportunities to its students are designed to give our graduates the skills they need to be successful in the thriving hospitality fields.  More than 2,000 students have graduated from the Hospitality program and are employed in a variety of hospitality management positions throughout the United States and worldwide. The Hospitality Management program at The University of Alabama is available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and both degree programs are offered on campus or through our online distance education programs.

The Hospitality Management program offers 4 concentrations: 1) Hotel/Lodging, 2) Sport, Entertainment, and Event Management, 3) Food and Beverage, and 4) Meeting Management.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Hospitality Management (HM) Program at The University of Alabama is to “educate future leaders for the hospitality and tourism industries” by creating successful managers and future executives for positions in restaurants, hotel and lodging properties, convention bureaus, conference and meeting centers, private clubs, sporting venues, commercial, institutional and health care food services, and contract management companies through intensive academic courses and work experience in approved practicums and internships

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

The Hospitality Management (HM) program offers a variety of courses designed to develop the skills and abilities required for a career in hospitality management. The curriculum prepares students for careers in meeting, convention, and special event management, hotel event sales and services, convention and business event operations, hotel food and beverage management, hotel marketing and operations, and restaurant, commercial food service. Student must complete a pre-approved internship in a hospitality organization. This work experience will advance student’ expertise and allow them to gain insight within a hospitality organization. Students select a concentration in one of the following areas:

  • Event and Entertainment
  • Hotel/Lodging
  • Restaurant/Food and Beverage Management
  • Sport, Entertainment and Event Management

PROGRAM GOALS

  • Provide a common body of knowledge in hospitality administration coupled with a broad education and awareness of values, skills, and attitudes which will prepare students for imaginative and responsible citizenship roles in the hospitality industry and society.
  • Enable students to understand and apply the concepts of problem-solving in general and in organizational and industry-related issues.

ACCELERATED MASTER’S PROGRAM (AMP) FOR M.S. HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

What is the AMP program?

The Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) is designed to incentivize our best undergraduate students to pursue their graduate studies at The University of Alabama. The program offers students the ability to pursue an undergraduate degree in Hospitality Management while simultaneously earning up to 12 credit hours toward the M.S. degree in Hospitality Management. Students take specific graduate courses that will count towards both the graduate program and the undergraduate program.

How to apply?
Students must have a 3.7 GPA to apply for the AMP program. Students can apply the semester they earn 90 credit hours to start the following semester. Students apply for the program through the link on the graduate school website.
